The Cleveland Cavaliers are under significant pressure after falling into a 0-2 series hole against the Detroit Pistons, placing Donovan Mitchell and James Harden firmly in the spotlight.
According to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, Cleveland will need a more consistent and powerful performance from Mitchell if they hope to turn the series around. Although Mitchell rebounded in Game 2 with 31 points by aggressively attacking the basket, his long-range shooting remained inconsistent following a shaky opening round.
Meanwhile, Harden has faced criticism over his turnovers, especially after being brought in to elevate the Cavaliers into championship contention. Joe Reedy of the Associated Press noted that the veteran guard has recorded more turnovers than made field goals in four playoff games so far, including both games against Detroit.
“You look within first. Look at my turnovers, and a lot of them are just on me,” Harden admitted. “For me, I got to be better. I will be better (not) turning the basketball over and getting shots up.”
ESPN’s Jamal Collier also pointed out that the remainder of the playoffs could heavily shape how both stars are perceived going forward.
Mitchell, however, said he is not overwhelmed by the moment.
“This isn’t pressure. Getting your next meal is pressure,” he said. “Where am I going to live? You know, that’s pressure. This is an opportunity. This is fun.”
