Leire Martínez got emotional while recalling her time with La Oreja de Van Gogh during a concert in Córdoba, Argentina, where she was promoting her debut solo album “Historias de aquella niña.” The moment came as the Spanish band began its “Tantas cosas que contar Tour 2026,” marking the return of original vocalist Amaia Montero after 20 years.

While the band was launching its tour in Spain, Martínez was performing in South America, focusing on her solo project and trying to move on from her 17-year tenure with La Oreja de Van Gogh. However, during her show, she broke down in tears as she reflected on her past with the group, earning a strong round of applause from the audience.
“Today the La Oreja de Van Gogh tour started in Spain, and… ugh, I didn’t think it would affect me, but yes, it does,” she admitted on stage.
“It’s true that today some songs are going to be harder for me than usual. But you know what? I worked very hard on that project. They were seventeen incredible years in that project, and I’m going to pay tribute to it with this medley of La Oreja songs,” she continued.
Martínez then performed a version of “Jueves,” one of the most iconic singles from her era with the band, often having to pause because she couldn’t contain her emotions. “You know what happens? I don’t like to steer the speech toward comparisons. This isn’t about who does it better or worse. It’s about seventeen years of a relationship, and it’s hard to say goodbye. To close the cycle in a different way.”
“I wanted to thank not only the people who have stayed and continued supporting me over this past year and a half, but also all those who held up La Oreja eighteen years ago. You all made me feel very respected, very loved, and never like someone’s substitute,” she concluded.
