Departing Brazilian star Casemiro has publicly thrown his support behind interim manager Michael Carrick, describing the club’s current managerial situation as a “dilemma.” While Carrick may lack the high-profile reputation of other candidates, Casemiro insists his performances fully warrant a permanent appointment.

Since taking over as interim manager following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, Carrick has overseen an impressive run: 12 wins in 17 matches with just two defeats, securing Champions League qualification for the club. Club officials are expected to announce a permanent decision after the season ends, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen to finalize the appointment quickly to allow planning for next season.

Manchester United continues to evaluate multiple candidates, including Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann, and Andoni Iraola. However, speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube show, Casemiro stated that Carrick has proven himself more deserving of the job than any big-name contender. The midfielder, who is leaving Old Trafford this summer, spoke emphatically in Carrick’s favor: “It’s a big dilemma now – because he absolutely deserves to stay, he truly merits it. The team is playing excellently under him, winning tough matches, and we’re improving game by game. In my view, that’s the dilemma: he fully deserves this opportunity. Players feel very comfortable with him, we’ve won many crucial games, and he definitely deserves to be made permanent.”

Casemiro compared Carrick’s man-management skills to those of Carlo Ancelotti. “For me, he’s on that level. He understands how players feel; Ancelotti is great because he gets players, he’s played the game, and knows when to encourage and when to push. What sets Carrick apart most is that he understands this club and Manchester United. So I firmly believe: he deserves the permanent role, and should definitely stay.”
