With their place in the Champions League final secured, Arsenal have guaranteed they will finish the 2025/26 season as the European club with the most competitive matches played. Mikel Arteta’s side will complete the campaign with 63 games, leaving Braga and Atletico Madrid to battle for the remaining podium spots.
Had Arsenal been eliminated in the semi-finals, they would have finished with 62 matches—the same total as Atletico Madrid and potentially Braga. However, the Gunners’ victory over their Spanish opponents pushes them to the top of the continental rankings.
Braga have already guaranteed 61 matches but could reach 62 if they eliminate Freiburg on Thursday and reach the Europa League final. The Minho-based side are set to set a new absolute record for the most games played by a Portuguese club in a single season, surpassing the previous mark of 60 held by Benfica (2018/19 and 2024/25) and Sporting (2017/18).
In the top 10 of European clubs with the most games this season, Portugal is the only nation breaking the monopoly of the Big Five leagues. Sporting, along with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Aston Villa, could still finish among the top 10, depending on results involving Nottingham Forest and Rayo Vallecano. Benfica are close behind with 55 matches.
