American cyclist Matteo Jorgenson (26), the Visma-Lease a Bike leader for the Ardennes classics, sustained a fractured collarbone in a crash during the Amstel Gold Race, his team confirmed on Sunday. The injury will force him to miss both the Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
The crash occurred approximately 40 kilometers from the finish in Valkenburg when Jorgenson was unable to avoid Kevin Vauquelin, who had fallen moments earlier. While Vauquelin was able to remount and continue, Jorgenson remained on the asphalt. The Californian was part of the leading group at the time, which included eventual race winner Remco Evenepoel.
A two-time winner of Paris-Nice (2024 and 2025), Jorgenson also placed second in this season’s Drôme Classic, won by Frenchman Romain Grégoire. The Ardennes classics will now go ahead without one of their key contenders.
