The match turned decisively in the eighth minute when Porto’s Bednarek was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Chris Wood, followed almost immediately by Morgan Gibbs-White’s goal that swung the tie firmly in Forest’s favor.

William Gomes struck the bar with a powerful first-time effort from a cross, but Forest soon reasserted control. Porto had a golden chance when William Gomes curled a free kick into the wall, but they couldn’t find an equalizer.
