Polish world No. 3 Iga Swiatek advanced to the round of 16 at the women’s singles tournament of the Rome Open after defeating Italian world No. 41 Elisabetta Cocciaretto in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
The Polish star needed just 60 minutes to secure the victory, repeating her dominant performance against Cocciaretto with the same scoreline as their previous encounter in Rome in 2025.
Swiatek continued her strong run in Rome, recording her 23rd win in her last 25 matches at the tournament and reaching the round of 16 for the fifth consecutive year.
The three-time Rome Open champion will now face a tough test against Japan’s Naomi Osaka, renewing their rivalry for the first time since the 2024 French Open at Roland Garros. Swiatek holds a 2-1 advantage in their head-to-head meetings ahead of this highly anticipated clash.
